Due to Microsoft's scopes policy, Outlook users can't change their access type (email permissions) inside the CTD app once they've initially chosen it. To change it, the email account has to be removed from CTD and its permissions revoked on the Microsoft dashboard — then reconnected with the new access type.
This only applies to Outlook accounts. For Google accounts, the read access scope can be changed without deleting the account.
Follow these 5 steps to change the access type
- Go to the Accounts page.
- Click Delete account next to your Outlook account.
- Type in DELETE and click the Delete account button.
- Revoke access on the Microsoft dashboard by clicking Edit on the CTD.ai app and then Remove these permissions.
- Reconnect the account with the new access type:
- If it was your only source account, sign up again and select the new access type.
- If you have multiple source accounts, add it back on the Accounts page by clicking Add Outlook account and selecting the new access type.
Which access type should I pick?
When reconnecting, you'll choose how much access CTD has:
- Metadata only — CTD reads the email envelope: from, to, cc, date, and subject line. No email body. Maximum privacy, still provides relationship data.
- Emails with signatures — CTD reads metadata plus email signatures, which it uses to extract job titles, phone numbers, and other contact details to enrich your network. This is the recommended setting for the richest data.
See Add a personal email account for the full breakdown of scopes and send permission.
Removing an account temporarily removes the relationship data sourced from that inbox. Once you reconnect, CTD re-syncs your email history and your network score updates automatically.
